The amazing properties of green tea

I wasn’t much of a tea drinker before I got cancer: I was a Starbucks Iced Mocha person (all the caffeine please!). One of the steps before chemotherapy is meeting with the Oncology nutritionist, and as it turns out tea, particularly green tea, is on the American Cancer Research Institute’s list of anti-cancer superfoods. Green tea has a specific antioxidant, epigallocatechtin gallate which is being researched for its cellular-level healing properties. It works like a little bodyguard repairing damage on cells that could turn into cancer. No, I can’t pronounce it either, and yes, I absolutely imagine it like a weird little sci-fi robots doing maintenance. My oncology nutritionist advised me to drink 3-4 cups of tea, particularly green tea, per day during treatment. If you don’t like the grassy taste (common complaint), add lemon, pomegranate juice, or a little honey. I’m well into cancer survivorship now, and while I’m back to the occasional mocha, I still drink some sort of tea every day.
All tea is good for you, and there are so many varieties and combinations I’m certain there’s a mix that will fit everyone
